Tell use what you want to see at the Shacknet meetings. What do you want to get out of the evenings? How often would you like to have the meetings? Help us to make the shacknet experience more interesting and open to more people.

I’m playing Devils advocate here, to see the reaction to this suggestion. I think that this Shacknet group would benefit from registering itself as a charity and collecting membership fees in a not-for-profit way. This would enable the group to raise funds for buying Arduino kit so that its members could experience practical sessions as well as discussions. This would be more appealing to a wider membership base, from different backgrounds, not just those of I.T. professionals.

On the Manchester side of the hills, they have no problem about charging money for their organisation. See MADLAB: http://madlab.org.uk

On acquiring Arduino Kit there is always the option of holding Build Your Own sessions and the potential for Group Buy-in.

    Great for skills building…….

I have a single sided PCB sanguino style board that is easy and relatively cheap (Kicad). Any of the other Single Sided PCB style Arduinos are equally good candidates.

So who knows RUBY? At the shacknet meet up on August 17th at Gistlab I’d like to look at getting the RAD framework going and talking to an Arduino using RUBY.
