we said that we would try and create a stack of sessions that we would like to happen (and would be willing to ‘lead’).

If you have one – add it to this conversation and mark it with one or more of:
    - rocket-science
    - wp-101
    - practical

My first offering would be entitled ‘Everything I know about writing WP plugins in 30 minutes’.

I’m not sure it would actually last that long, but it would include:
    - mistakes I make every time
    - mistakes that other people make all the time
    - debugging tools
    - AJAX requests/responses

    (rocket-science)

I could quite easily do another on our ‘Knowledge management portal’ (some call it an intranet) at TechnoPhobia. It’s been running for a couple of years on WPMU and some custom plug-ins.
The technology isn’t that astounding, but the reasons we used it and how well it’s been adopted might be of interest to the corporate bods (or anyone else will knowledge capture/transfer issues).

    Hey Saul,

The Intranet one would be interesting. I’ve piloted this but never gone into a live environment (due to Windows Server issues) so would be nice to see one that is actually being used.

I’d also be really interested in running an Intranet on WP.

I’ll try and put a short feedback together on ManageWP.com for next time. This will most likely come under practical.

I’d be happy to ‘show and tell’ what we’ve done and why.

Some powerpoint slides and a quick demo would probably fill about 25 minutes and the inevitable questions and discussion following would easily fill another 10 minutes

I would certainly be interested in the writing WP plugins session!

  • Avatar Image James Methley said 1 year, 3 months ago:

    That’s a great idea, Saul.

I’d love to hear about all your custom plug-ins.

  • Avatar Image Saul Cozens said 1 year, 3 months ago:

Cheers Jim, some of those plugins are proper good ;o)

Seriously if you want to talk about how they work rather than what they do (which is all I can do) it’d be great

Whoever wrote them sounds like a genius.

I’ll make sure I’m there to hear you explain how they were written and how they work. I’ll make a point of it.

Would anyone be able to do a session on SVN? It confuses me, I think it would be useful in some cases, I’m currently doing some testing on the 3.8 Beta of WP eCommerce but I’m not sure if I definitely need it and if I do, how do I use it.

  • Avatar Image Jag Goraya said 12 months ago:

@cehwitham there’s definitely room for a version control session. I’ve always been confounded by how they actually work and what’s good practice.
I’ll see if there’s anyone from the php group (or another hardcore dev group) who might be interested in doing something like a VCS for non-developers – for March. Not suggesting you’re not a developer ;-)

I’d be very interested in the plugins, and SVN/trac!
